Michigan's auto no-fault insurance law has ensured needed medical and rehabilitation benefits for people injured in auto accidents since 1973.
Without it, auto accident victims would not be able to afford the extensive care they require after traumatic injuries. To date, the law has been successfully protected by members of the Coalition to Protect Auto No-fault, which includes the MHA and 27 additional organizations. However,
Michigan's auto no-fault insurance is once again under attack in the Michigan Legislature.
This pursuit is well-funded by Michigan's insurance industry which wishes to achieve a long-standing goal of shifting the costs of the existing system
-- from auto insurers to health care providers. And to date, the debate has been marked by intense advocacy, aggressive paid advertising and statewide media attention.
The MHA, its member hospitals and the Coalition to Protect Auto No-fault continue to press the issue with elected officials, the media and general public to dispel the myths propagated by proponents of House Bill (HB) 4936. However, your personal engagement on this critical issue is essential to protecting patients and providers from these proposals that continue to advance in the state legislature.
