In March
2010, national health care reform legislation that
originally developed in the U.S. Senate passed the U.S.
House of Representatives and was then signed into law by
President Obama, marking a historic day in the
progress towards health care coverage for all Americans. The
MHA Health Reform Resource Center will monitor provisions of
the law that affect Michigan hospitals and health systems
and provide tools, information and resources for members as
reform is implemented.

MHA Comments on Essential
Health Benefits Bulletin
The MHA has submitted
comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services regarding the Dec. 16 Bulletin on Essential Health
Benefits (EHB) developed by the Center for Consumer
Information and Insurance Oversight.
The MHA expressed a need for
Center to more effectively balance meaningful coverage with
affordability; clarify the "benchmark" health plan approach
to ensure that consumers are able to access coverage with
adequate benefits and not simply coverage with an equivalent
actuarial value; offer benefits that cover a wide range of
individuals' health needs; and ensure that benefits take
into account clinical effectiveness and evidence-based
medicine.
The MHA will continue to keep
members apprised of EHB developments as additional guidance
on coverage, cost sharing and actuarial value determination
become available. Members with questions may contact
Ruthanne Sudderth (rsudderth@mha.org)
or Laura Appel (lappel@mha.org)
at the MHA.
