Staff Secretary
Health Information Technology Strategy Identifies and develops strategies to help the MHA and its members with health information technology (HIT) issues impacting hospitals. In addition, the committee will review various HIT-related regulatory and industry trends that will have significant implications for member hospitals.

Legislative Policy Panel Reviews emerging health care legislation in a timely and efficient manner and recommends an appropriate association response. In addition, the panel will assume a proactive role in identifying new legislative initiatives for the association to champion.
David Finkbeiner
Michigan Green Health Care Committee Recognizes the interconnection between health and the environment. Supports and encourages sustainability initiatives that improve human and environmental health, protect the unique resources of the state and strengthen Michigan’s health care sector. MGHC examines ecological impacts, establishes annual goals, promotes sustainable strategies for health care facilities; proposes and creates joint initiatives with key stakeholders; develops and disseminates educational materials; generates new ideas and initiatives to respond to emerging needs or concerns and meets environmental, economic and social objectives. MGHC works to establish a framework for Michigan’s health care sector to improve the health and well-being of the state’s ecology and its citizens.
Paige Hathaway
Quality and Accountability Assists in the development of MHA thinking on health care quality management and patient safety issues, including performance improvement and accreditation/regulatory compliance. The committee will routinely review quality initiatives, accreditation standards and policy changes that affect providers as proposed by organizations such as the American Hospital Association, The Joint Commission, the MPRO, and the state Medicaid program. Reviews and authorizes requests for access to MHA data resources and provides member feedback on MHA data acquisition and data exchange policies and activities.

Hospital-Physician Alignment Examines the relevant environmental trends affecting Michigan hospitals and physicians and recommends an appropriate association role in creating enhanced hospital-physician alignment strategies designed to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care delivered to Michigan communities and patients.

Staff Secretary
Business Advisory Acts as an advisory committee to the MHA Board of Trustees by identifying emerging health care issues and trends of mutual concern to purchasers and providers. Reviews and analyzes studies, data and information pertaining to health care. Identifies and recommends partnership opportunities and coalition efforts to foster greater understanding of the health care market; the impact of benefit costs on employers, employees and governmental entities; and the role of hospitals and health systems in promoting economic growth and helping to build healthier communities.

Small or Rural Hospitals

 

Examines the broad issues facing the health care industry and represents the perspective of the small and rural provider on these issues to the policy- and decision-making bodies of the MHA. Further, the council focuses on issues unique to the small and rural provider from a regulatory and policy development viewpoint.
