Education and Leadership
Development
For more than 30 years the Michigan
Health & Hospital Association has been
providing high quality, cutting-edge
education to its members in order to
enhance care delivery and quality in
Michigan's nonprofit community
hospitals. As we move into the 21st
century, our education focus has shifted
from enhancing knowledge and skills to
improve operations, to developing a more
progressive, proactive and creative
health care industry in the state.

Current and Upcoming Education Events
Governance Leadership
 The
foundation offers an exclusive and
one-of-a-kind program designed to make a
good board member great and a committed
board member an exceptional asset. The
Excellence in Governance Fellowship
provides leadership development
opportunities through a powerful
combination of expert faculty and
specially designed curriculum and
interaction. This unique nine-month
learning collaborative offers governing
board members the chance to move well
beyond basic board functions and
thinking.
The 2004-2005 class of the
Excellence in Governance Fellowship
is underway. Nominations for entrance
into the 2005-2006 class will be called
for in early 2005. To further explore

Innovations - Designing and Prototyping
for Innovation
 Innovations
is a learning collaborative that gathers
hospital leaders together in settings
that are anything but traditional to
inspire creativity, challenge the “norm”
and honestly discuss new leadership
behaviors required to change the status
quo. Ultimately, the success factors
identified in Innovations
can become the tipping point for
Michigan’s health care revolution.
Innovations gatherings will feature
inspirational leaders who have achieved
business and cultural nirvana through
new thinking, commitment and discipline.
A core focus of Innovations
is personal growth and community. You
will dive into your own purpose, ethics,
principles, motivation and conduct and
learn how you can use these to achieve

CareLearning
 Providing
cost-effective, mandatory health and
safety compliance training has many
hospitals looking for alternative
solutions to traditional classroom
education. The MHA Health Foundation, in
cooperation with more than 40 other
state hospital associations and the
American Hospital Association, has
formed
CareLearning.com,
an Internet-based education and learning
administration system.

Community Health Initiatives
The MHA Health Foundation partners with
Michigan's nonprofit hospitals to
improve the health of individuals and
communities throughout the state through
cutting-edge education, up-to-date
information and resources, and top-notch
networking opportunities. Through
involvement in work with Michigan's
Surgeon General, the Michigan Department
of Community Health, and other
organizations committed to improving
health in Michigan we keep you
connected, inspired, equipped and
