July Session Outline

  July 27 and 28, 2012
Grand Traverse Resort & Spa, Acme

Effective Physician Leadership

Strategic Thinking and Decision making

Effective leadership requires the understanding and application of influence -- listening to the concerns of others and letting people know that you understand their issues from their perspective. It also requires practicing positive politics, creatively solving multiple problems and drawing attention to the success of others.

Research shows that, when leaders learn to use influence skills, they are able to apply them in a wide variety of specific activities, including leading teams, coaching and managing conflict. The Effective Physician Leadership session will address gaps in knowledge and competence in communication, influence and relationship management to increase the effectiveness of physician leadership and collaboration, ultimately leading to improved organizational outcomes.

The Strategic Thinking and Decision-making session will provide participants with the ability to distinguish among strategy, operations, processes, and tactics and think strategically, as well as

organizationally. You will learn to use strategic planning skills, such as Strengths, weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SwOT) and scenario analysis. At the end of the session, participants will understand how to execute strategy by aligning functions, processes, systems and rewards. The course uses case studies to demonstrate strategic thinking and decision-making.
