April Session Outline

  April 27 and 28, 2012
The James B. Henry Center for Executive Development, Michigan State University, Lansing

You’re Not Just a Doctor Anymore: Physician as Leader, Influencer and Communicator

The requirements of those around us, our organization, and the entire health care system demand a new kind of attention from physicians. In this interactive, content-rich and skills-oriented session, you are given a bird’s-eye view of what makes today's physician leaders unique and effective. You will learn how to make difficult decisions, listen more closely, reach out to others and enlist the cooperation of those who are sometimes not cooperative.

At the program, participants will gain an understanding of a common vocabulary of leadership, change and influence; explore how to forge a leadership identity that focuses on outcomes; and openly discuss leadership successes and challenges. You will leave with leadership strategies you can use immediately.

Agenda, CME and Other Information

The session starts at noon Friday and ends at 3 p.m. Saturday. Included on the agenda is a briefing by the MHA Health Reform Resource Center and an overview of the activities conducted under the auspices of the MHA Committee on Hospital-Physician Alignment.

The session includes lunch both days, a networking reception, and a continental breakfast. The session is approved for 8 hours of Category 1 CME. A detailed outline and faculty biography can be found on the MHA Physician Leadership Academy website.
