Two Bronson Battle Creek Staff Members Receive MHA Keystone Center Safety Award
Posted on January 31, 2019
Eryn Glerum and Stephanie Pratt, nuclear medical technologists at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, were recent recipients of the quarterly MHA Keystone Center Speak-up! Award.
The award recognizes individuals of MHA Keystone Center Patient Safety Organization (PSO) members who speak up to prevent patient and staff harm. The MHA Keystone Center presents its Speak-up! Award quarterly, with one quarterly awardee recognized as an annual Speak-up! Award recipient.
Additional award finalists for the fourth quarter of 2018 include:
- Priti Patel, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak
- Brytany Bailey, Beaumont Hospital, Trenton
- Joshua Tranchida, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe
Glerum and Pratt were recognized for identifying, reporting and following through on an incidental finding during a cardiac stress test. By speaking up, they helped ensure the patient received important information about a potential serious health concern.
“Speaking up is critically important,” said Brian Peters, CEO, MHA. “We need to have every individual that’s involved in the patient’s care journey talking with each other, comparing notes, describing what’s working and what’s not. That’s the culture we need to promote and recognize, and that’s what this award presented to Bronson Battle Creek staff is all about.”
This is the second time that Bronson Healthcare system staff have received the award. Dr. Seth Raymond, an anesthesiologist at Bronson Methodist Hospital, was the recipient of the 2016 annual MHA Keystone Center Speak-up! Award.
“At Bronson, we are committed to the safety and wellbeing of every patient in our care,” said Frank Sardone, president and CEO, Bronson Healthcare. “By empowering all team members to speak up, we are able to identify and respond to concerns that may often impact not just one, but potentially many patients. Striving for safe, equitable outcomes is a strength at Bronson Battle Creek, which currently holds an “A” hospital safety grade from the Leapfrog Group.”
